With one third of Australians suffering with a skin ailment within the past fortnight, demand for on-the-spot assessment of skin conditions by pharmacists is high, according to Professor Rodney Sinclair, professor of medicine at the University of Melbourne and Head of Sinclair Dermatology Investigational Research.
“Patients expect the pharmacists to know. Patients are coming to the pharmacist to seek help – it’s a really important part of the day-to-day work of the pharmacist so being across it is really important.”
To keep pharmacists abreast of the latest clinical developments, Pharmacy News in partnership with Australian Doctor, has launched CLINICAL HUB, with a Dermatology portal focusing on all things skin, unlocked for pharmacists and doctors with an unconditional educational grant from Bayer. This delivers a range of content – from in depth clinical articles on diagnosis and treatment to practical patient case studies, videos and quizzes to test your clinical knowledge.
The hub also brings together Australian Doctor’s popular ‘How to Treat’ articles – until now unavailable to pharmacists – which are specific to dermatology, providing an in-depth look at the diagnosis, treatment and management of myriad conditions, from atopic eczema and psoriasis to pigmentation disorders, plus others.
Medical specialists have steered the development of this highly visual and engaging website to ensure it delivers relevant content in the following key clinical areas:
- Eczema, psoriasis and scaling
- Bacterial and fungal conditions
- Hair and nail
- Immunological disorders
- Skin tumours
You’ll also hear from experts including Professor Sinclair, Professor Deedee Murrell, professor at UNSW and head of dermatology at St George Hospital in Sydney, and Queensland dermatologist Dr Ian McColl, among others.
“I anticipate this will be really well liked by pharmacists and GPs who want to get some core information, but also want the ability to drill down and get a bit more depth in the topics that interest them,” says Professor Sinclair. “It’s important to try to keep up.”
